Wombat City Hostel is the perfect accommodation for your next trip to London! Why pay insane prices when you can spend the night at a cozy, safe, and cheap hostel right in the heart of London?! As a female traveler (and a broke college kid), my primary concern is to find a safe and cheap place to stay on my adventures; Wombat checked off all my boxes!
Why I Loved This Hostel
My sister and I stayed in Wombat for four nights on my last trip to London and absolutely loved it! It is adorable, cheap, and has every aspect of a hostel that someone could ask for! We also made some great buddies along the way! This is my top pick of an affordable and secure hostel in London!
Below are some of the things that make Wombat so great.
Security
As a female traveler, good security in the place I’m staying in never goes unappreciated. Wombat really nails this aspect! There’s a security guard by the front door throughout the night, as well as keycards that you need to get pretty much everywhere. Rooms, the bar, as well as the entire back half of the hotel are protected by these keycards! You get one when you check in and you’re set! The lockers are really great; there are lockers in every room that open and close with your keycard as well.
Bar
There’s a bar in the downstairs of the hotel that doubles as the breakfast area in the morning. It’s really vibey down there, and it also has games like foosball and ping pong! There are couches where you can hang around, meet people, or get work done. They also have different nightly events like comedy nights, karaoke, and more, which are really fun! You don’t even have to leave the hostel to make some new buddies and get a taste of London hospitality.
Breakfast
There’s an optional breakfast for a small fee, but it is really well done! You pay at the front desk and then head down to the basement to grab your dishes and get a selection of meats, cheeses, toasts, coffee, tea, fruit, and more! For all the food you get, it’s a great price and very convenient.
Cafe
There’s a Wombat Cafe on the ground floor where you check in. This place was one of my favorites! You can grab a cup of coffee, talk to people checking into the hostel, chill in the common area, and there’s even bookshelves and ladders if you’re looking for a good read! I absolutely loved the homey feel of this area. Not only are there plush and comfy couches and bookshelves, but there’s also a precious dining room table with cool lamps; it truly makes a great place to watch a movie or get some work done with a nice cup of tea!
Laundry
I know you’re stinky after riding around on trains/planes/buses, so there’s a place to get that laundry done also. Thank goodness.
Rooms
We stayed in a 5 person mixed dorm. We were given clean sheets for the bed, and every bed had a great pillow and very warm blanket. The front desk gave us a towel as well. The rooms were locked with our keycard, and our lockers opened with the card as well. The lockers are also in the rooms, which is really helpful!
Bathrooms
The bathrooms are well equipped, very clean, and also have a lock on the door. The showers are a 10/10! We had a bathroom in our 5 person dorm which was lovely.
Vibes
I feel like vibes are a necessary addition to this post! The vibes of this place are just cool; the staff is really friendly, the decoration is really fun, and there are so many places to chill and hang out. One of my personal favorites was the courtyard in the downstairs of the hostel. There’s an outside area with tables where I loved to sit and drink coffee and get work done! There are also beautiful views of London from the windows!
